"The Live Entertainment Capital Of The Entire Universe Is Not Holding" lyrics
"The Live Entertainment Capital Of The Entire Universe Is Not Holding"
We decided to leave Branson early
You win, Branson
And on the way out of the resort we agreed there's nobody we'd rather have such a terrible time with
You know, it sounds crazy, but there was a time that Branson, Missouri, was actually something kind of special in its own right
You know, it was this incredibly ambitious thing, in a way
This thing as big as Las Vegas but built in accordance with what the people who were building it thought was right in some way
You know, back in the '90s 60 Minutes called it without a shred of irony: "The Live Entertainment Capital of the Entire Universe"
And people still come to Branson for miles and miles around, especially during the holiday season when they have these incredible Christmas lights displays, these intricately and meticulously crafted modern marvels dedicated to the most wonderful time of the year
A time that many of us, even those of us who don't believe in anything in particular find somehow sacred
The New York Times a couple of years ago reported that 20% of Branson, Missouri's population is homeless or living in a motel
And sometimes I worry that the only that that I believe is that Branson is just what happens to everything, eventually
That things fall apart
Often times as a result of them doing the thing that they are doing to try and save themselves from falling apart
Like a rat biting off its own foot
On the way home, from Branson, Christina and I just happened to pass through one of the towns that I had put on my "Runaway List" what was now years prior
It's this little town called Casey, Illinois
And Casey is famous for being the home of the World's Largest you name it
World's Largest Mailbox, World's Largest Rocking Chair, and the World's Largest Wind-chime
And on a whim I decided to post something online inviting anybody who was out there in the middle of nowhere to come and hear me play ukulele for a bit
And it was my first time playing in front of an audience in almost two years
